Staggeringly beautiful and simple and perfect for my home!
Lunar craters are almost two billion years old, and today, we can observe them unchanged since their formation. these craters show the physical impact over an undisturbed terrain by revealing the presence of concave depressions, left by the collision of an object against the silent lunar surface. london-based shiro studio has developed a series of marble trays, ’mare tranquilitatis’, conceived by applying the lunar craters analogy, where every intersecting concavity is metaphorically carved by the mass and weight of the resting objects. the diversity of depths for each concavity generates different diameters, allowing a variety of different objects to comfortably rest on the tray. the fine ribbed texture reveals the industrial milling process and it has been deliberately left visible to declare its contemporary machined genesis. each individual tray measures 350 x 350 x 55 mm and is made of white carrara c marble, manufactured in italy.

The “equal” is a font created by designer Isabel Lucena where all the characters occupy the same area per square meter. The area of each letter was calculated by developing a program that counted the amount of pixels each character takes in the screen, having this information the thickness of each letter was adjusted until they all used the same amount of pixels. This font was originally created for a symposium about “equality” in the cultural center “de balie”, in Amsterdam, where conferences about many aspects of the subject were taking place over a weekend. The typography pretends to express that equality does not mean harmony nor balance, especially when it is enforced blindly in a mixed society and it overlooks peoples different needs and expectations. The specimen was originally presented in a series of 50 silkscreened posters with quotes from the “animal farm” book.

My friends Chris and Laurent have just opened their new shop, Cire Trudon.
Cire Trudon was established in 1643 by Claude Trudon, supplying candles to Napoleon and the French Royal Court, including the Palace of Versailles.
These are scented luxury candles, but candles with a difference. Beautifully done up and it’s an amazing product with a very rich history.
They have gone into painstaking detail to develop new smells that keep the personality of the original brand and also reinterpret it for a modern world.

Worth a visit.
