Over the past few days, I have been gradually posting images of my adventures (with some dear friends) to Burning Man on flickr (also enclosed in this post). Pictures and words can not describe how amazing it was.

The image you see above here is a satellite image of the whole dam thing…. just look how amazingly organised it is.. we lived at 9.30 and Detroit. Work it out for your selves.. Lots of Rum, Vodka, Miso soup, beef jerky the Gourd and what not, were consumed.

Surreal, creative, fun, bloody mad, exhausting, inspiring –  are just a few one worders that only scrape the surface.

There was no animosity whatsoever and this was so much better than any English festival experience I could possibly imagine. No rubbish, carnage, mess, just a deep respect for the surroundings.

A huge 200 art installations where dotted around the Playa and mutant vehicles, bikes, dust storms, lots of  laughs etc..
I just want to thank the lovely people that joined me on this amazing adventure, they know who they are….

On the organisational front, I’ll be going again next year for sure. Get in touch if you need some hot tips etc.. I hope you enjoy my photos.

So much fun to be had with one little application.

Messa di Voce (Ital., “placing the voice”) is an audiovisual performance in which the speech, shouts and songs produced by two abstract vocalists are radically augmented in real-time by custom interactive visualization software. The performance touches on themes of abstract communication, synaesthetic relationships, cartoon language, and writing and scoring systems, within the context of a sophisticated, playful, and virtuosic audiovisual narrative. I saw it ages ago and had compleatly forgotten about it.. I like it when you refind things you had forgotten about.

What a great combination, mapping from your phone and Augmented Reality; places, space, historical buildings, the possibilities seem endless.

It could be considered a bit gimmicky.. could be quite fun and effective.

Frequency and Volume:
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer crosses into many boundaries, sculpture, peformance, interaction, achitecture. He is well known for developing large-scale installations in public spaces. His work encourages both social interaction and audience participation through the deployment of new technologies.
So as well as beinga geek he’s an experiencial designer.

Frequency and Volume at the Barbican’s Curve is a fantastic experiment focuses on political issues of surveillance and information ownership. It is composed of 48 radios, which can potentially all be tuned to different channels simultaneously. The 90-metre long arc of the gallery wall becomes a visual and sonic representation of London’s radio spectrum, constantly changing according to the physical position of its visitors.

On entering the space, participants’ shadows are cast on the wall. Monitored by a video tracking system, each shadow tunes in to a radio frequency, changing channels as it moves around the gallery. The outline of a projected shadow affects the tuning, while its size controls the volume, thus the human body becomes an antenna able to tune into different frequencies. The resulting sound environment is a continuously evolving composition created by multiple contributors.

He is also represented by Haunch of Venison. Now that’s a great place!

This is fantasic.. Easyweb specialises in projecting video on to pretty much anything. They use 3d software and can map directly on to monuments, props, buildings, floors etc.. They do it with great effect.
