I went to the Photographers Gallery last night for a book talk.
The Colombian author Juan Gabriel Vásquez and Erica Segre, Cambridge University; exploring and talking about Colombian literature after Magical Realism. How has the popularity of writers such as Gabriel García Márquez affected Europeans’ view of the country?

Gabriel García Márquez wrote probably one of my favorite books “A hundred years of solitude”.

It touched on sensitive issues with regards to it’s regime, corruption, drug barons etc.. and how this also affected peoples perception of Columbia, also discussed was the use of the novel in national myth making and contemporary Colombian literature.
